How to write a description

Five things the model should learn from your text, and one thing to leave out

How to write a description

In short

Write like a camera operator: who is in frame, where, what light, and what the camera does. One idea per shot, without a list of ten styles.

Who or what is in frame

Start with the main subject. The model reads in order, and the first thing gets more attention.

Three details are enough: age, clothes, pose.

Do: Woman around thirty, beige coat, standing half-turned at the railing

Avoid: Beautiful girl, very beautiful, perfect looks

Where it happens

The place sets the background, color, and much of the mood. Name it and add one visible detail: wet pavement, a cafe window, sand on the steps.

Do: Rooftop of an old house, evening city behind her, a cup on the parapet

Avoid: A beautiful atmospheric place

Light

Light decides whether the frame feels like a photo or an ad. Name the source and time: sunset from the side, neon signs, a lamp above the table.

If you say nothing, the model chooses even studio light. It usually looks duller.

Camera movement

For video, this is what separates a living clip from an animated postcard. Use one movement per clip: a slow push-in, a walk around the subject, handheld camera.

Two different movements in a five-second clip usually turn into shake.

Do: The camera slowly moves closer as the subject turns toward the city

Avoid: Push-in, orbit, pull-out, and pan

Try it with your photo

The By description form opens in video-from-photo mode. The price is shown before launch.

What to avoid

Comma-separated style lists fight each other and produce an average result.

Negations also work poorly. Describe what should be there directly.

If you start with your photo

The model gets appearance from the image, so do not repeat it. Describe what is not in the photo: movement, place, and light.
